Rialto Bridge Spanning the Grand Canal, Rialto Bridge is one of the enduring images of Venice. Originally a wooden bridge erected in 1250, the current stone bridge has been standing since 1591. The two sides of the bridge, which are lined with shops and stalls, rise to meet under a central portico. Antonio da Ponte's design was unusual for the time period and despite being scoffed at by his peers, Rialto Bridge has maintained it's place as one of Venice's best-loved landmarks. |
