The Venetian Arsenal dates back to the middle ages and was an important shipbuilding facility, the efficency of the Arsenal helped maintain Venetian influence over trade and seafaring in the region. At it's peak, and thanks to innovative mass-producing methods, the Arsenal was reputedly able to make one warship a day. Parts of the restored Arsenal is still used as a naval base, and the impressive building is also home to a research centre and historic boat preservation society.
