    Carlo Goldoni's House
    Once the childhood home of Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni, renovations to turn this home into a museum were complete in 1953. Today, the museum offers a collection of works dedicated to the work of Goldoni and the history of Venice's theatre and literary scene.

    Museo Fortuny
    This former home of the Pesaro Family was converted into a museum by artist Mariano Fortuny as a studio for art, set design, painting and the creation of fabrics. The museum holds a large collection of work by Fortuny and is currently closed for renovations.

    Ca D'Oro - Galleria Giorgio Franchetti

    The Ca D'Oro is one of the most striking of Venice's palazzos featuring some impressive gothic architecture. It contains the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti, named after it's last private owner who restored the building and decorated it with many important works of art. Guided tours are possible and the Ca D'Oro is open daily to the public.

    The Glass Museum
    Housed in the former palace of the bishops of Torcello, this museum was founded in 1861 by then mayor Antonio Colleoni and Abbot Vincenzo Zanetti, and contains a collction of historic and contemporary glass art.

    The Lace Museum
    In 1981, the old Lace-School of Burano was transformed to contain the collections brought about by the school. Additional donations have padded the collection to include other important works from this genre, dating between the 16th and 20th centuries.

    Ca' Rezzonico - Museum of 18th-Century Art
    In addition to this museums extensive collection of 18th century art, including sculptures, frescoed ceilings, furniture and more, this museum is, in itself a work of art. Originally designed by Baldassare Longhena as a palace for the aristocratic Bon family, this palace-turned-gallery, is a fine example of baroque architecture and began construction in 1649.

    Museum of Natural History
    The Museum of Natural History got its home in 1921 thus uniting all the scientific artifacts once held in various museums into one collection. Once room in the museum is dedicated to the 1973 scientific expedition to Niger, which lead to the significant discovery of dinosaur skeletons. The ground floor holds a giant aquarium.

    Palazzo Mocenigo
    Once home to the prominant Moncenigo Family, of which seven went on to become Doge's, this building of gothic origin has undergone several renovations. In 1985, the building was designated as the Museum and Study Centre of the History of Fabrics and Costumes, and displays a collection of antient textiles, costumes and has a large library.

    Doge's Palace
    For thousands of years, Venice's chief magistrate and the Republic of Venice was lead by the Doge or Duke. This position was an elected post, but was eliminated in 1797 after the reign of Napoleon. Today, parts of the Doge Palace are preserved as a museum of sorts, where visitors can explore, on a guided tour, such things as the Museo dell'Opera, ornate courtyard, former institutional chambers, former prisons and more.

    Museo Correr
    Formerly the Church of San Genuniane, the site took transformation with the addition of the Napoleonic Wing, during his reign, but wasn't completed until the after the Austrian Hasburgs took control of Venice. Therefore, the stucture displays the influence of both cultures. The musuem collection now houses Venetial cultural and historic exhibits as well as important Venetian art, including that of the famous sculptor Antonio Canova.

    Gallerie dell'Accademia

    Contained within the Gallerie dell'Accademia are some of the most important works of art in the world. Most noted are Paolo Veneziano's Madonna and Child with Two Donors and Carpaccio's altarpiece Crucifixion and Apotheosis.
